Slow and Comforting Wintertime

This quarter ‘Everyday with Wholefoods’ brings you slow, warm and comforting seminar with hearty Winter food, wine and a seasonal roundup on the menu.

We’re sure you’ll be as delighted as we are by our guest speakers. We are pleased to welcome John and Yvonne Herriot of Herriot Wines in Manjimup, biodynamic winemakers. Learn all about the production of organic wines, traditionally made on an integrated family farm.

Also meet local chef, food writer and consultant Sophie Zalokar. Leading slow food advocate and tree-changer, Sophie and her family moved to Pemberton in 2005 to develop a 19-acre small farm and eco-tourism property. Sophie was born and raised in the Barossa Valley, SA and trained with Maggie Beer before traveling the world and settling here in Perth.

And of course, Jude will share her seasonal knowledge with information about what’s in season and what to do with it to nourish and comfort your family during the cooler months ahead.

Saturday 6th March

The Season of Harvest

This quarter ‘Everyday with Wholefoods’ brings you a look at Autumn and the season of Harvest. We’ll look at what’s coming into season over the next few months, where to get it and how to use it to create delicious meals that heal, nourish and delight!

With the new school year underway, our focus this seminar will be on children. We’ll take a closer look at lunches for both children and adults. We will be also celebrating Jude’s harvest – the publication of her new book “Wholefood for Children – Nourishing Young Children with Whole and Organic Foods”. This beautiful new edition will be available on the day or for pre-purchase.

You’ll also hear from two local food producers – Bee Winfield from Merri Bee Organic Farm, who grows a wide range of organic food including delicious eggs (what makes a good egg?) and meat (Merri Bee is the only source of certified organic, nitrate free bacon in Perth) and Gotthard Bauer from Yallingup Woodfired Bread (Demeter certified & biodynamic) who will share what makes a bread good!

Wholefood for Children – On Sale!

The underlying philosophy behind “Wholefood for Children” is the importance of feeding young, growing children nutrient-dense, whole and real food, preferably organic. Not only does a child require fuel to live, they also require it to build every part of their body and future pathways, and to learn. Nature has designed an exceptionally nutrient-dense, human-compatible food in breast milk, and it’s important to that we continue to feed our young truly good food.

Books will be available on the day and are $45. There will be credit card payments available for books only.

‘Everyday with Wholefood’ is a new seasonal seminar series bought to you by Whole Food Cooking to answer the BIG questions: how do I incorporate more whole foods into my everyday cooking; where do I get the ingredients; what can I cook for breakfast, lunch & dinner and all things in between!

During these seminars, you will hear from and meet local growers, producers and retailers. You’ll learn what’s in season, where to get it and how to use it.

The Summer ’09 Seminar will focus on Fish (Seasonal, Local, Sustainable and Unfarmed) and Grass Fed Meat, with a focus on easy dishes for outside eating and barbeques. We won’t forget about Christmas either with some delicious and simple suggestions for celebration.
